“WandaVision” review
Marvel’s “WandaVision” gives Marvel fans a closer look into the lives of avengers Wanda Maximoff and Vision after the events of “Avengers: Endgame”
The final episode of Marvel Studios’ long awaited new series, “WandaVision” has been released on The Walt Disney Company streaming service Disney+. Set three weeks after the events of “Avengers: Endgame,” this series combines the style of some of America’s most classic sitcoms with the Marvel Cinematic Universe in which two super-powered beings living their ideal suburban lives begin to suspect that everything is not what it seems. This series showcases Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff and Paul Bettany as Vision, both making several appearances in other Marvel movies. This series starts off slowly but doesn’t take long to pick up the pace as clues are revealed, hinting at the show’s real plot.
As the series begins in black and white, newlyweds Wanda Maximoff and Vision move into the town of Westview, New Jersey during what appears to be the 1950s. They attempt to fit in, hiding their special abilities from everyone in town, but soon begin to realize that all is not as it seems.
Within the first few episodes, clues are revealed, slowly disclosing the truth behind what is really happening in Westview.
This original series is unlike anything Marvel has done before, but it is sure to please fans with its humor, mystery and action-packed scenes.
The sitcom set up of this series is among one of the many things that make this show so unique. Sitcom references appear frequently throughout this series, drawing comparisons to a variety of popular shows including “The Brady Bunch,” “I love Lucy,” and more recent comedies like “Modern Family.”
As the series progresses, time jumps forward changing the scenery of the town to match that time period. With each time jump, there are new costumes, set designs, and theme songs to match. This element is an excellent addition to the show, making it that much more entertaining and special.
During this season, fans finally get to learn more about Wanda’s past, specifically during the period in time before she became an avenger. Revisiting memories from when Wanda was a child up until three weeks after the events of “Avengers: Endgame” is both a heart wrenching and revealing experience.
The acting in this series, particularly Olsen’s, more than live up to the skill level that is expected of the highly respected Marvel actors. This being the first time Olsen’s character is getting a solo series, many Marvel fans have been highly anticipating its release. Olsen delivers an excellent performance, flawlessly conveying her character’s grief and pain after the tragic events of “Avengers: Infinity War.”
The unique features and mystery element to this series make for an entertaining experience, as you uncover clues in an attempt to discover the truth of what is going on in Westview. At this point, it is not yet clear if there will be a second season but if there is, new episodes can be expected late 2022 at the earliest.
