Coming off a game where the Huskies defeated Topeka Seaman  3-0, it was clear the Huskies momentum would carry over into their rivalry game against North. And after less than two minutes, junior Andrew Mitchell would get the Huskies on the board.

Less than ten minutes later the Mustangs would tie the game at one, until junior Ryan Masterson would give them the lead going into the half with a goal of his own.

BVNW would extend their lead after earning a penalty kick. Senior Aidan Knauth would convert and give the Huskies a 3-1 lead with 23 minutes to play. Knauth said he was just focused on putting the ball in the net.

“I just wanted to place it in the corner,” Knauth said.

Head coach Brian Pollack said it’s something they work on in practice and Knauth was chosen for his good performance.

“Those are things we have in practice, so we know who our shooters are and he’s at the top of the list,” Pollack said.

With four minutes remaining in the game, senior Luke Rahto would add his name to the scoring column to give the Huskies a 4-1 lead. North added a goal with under a minute to go, but the Huskies stood victorious with a 4-2 win.

A big factor in the win was the ability to put goals in the net. In fact, every game they have scored, they have notched at least three goals. Pollack said the team’s energy helped the players score.

“This group is a hungry group, you can see it in their energy level, and in the first half the energy was a little worse than we wanted it to be,” Pollack said. “They showed up with the energy in the second half, and the goals followed.”

After beating North, Pollack has yet to lose to the rival Mustangs since becoming head coach. Pollack attributed this fact to the players being ready and wanting to win the game a little more.

“I think it’s just something you circle on your calendar, something that in a traditional year is the first game,” Pollack said. “It’s usually a packed house and so they want to perform and continue the streak.”

With their record now at 4-1-1, Knauth said he recognizes how the team has improved from last year.

“It feels good, a lot better than last year, we’re more of a team, more chemistry,” Knauth said.
