In their “One Last Game” the Huskies beat the Mustangs by a score of 20-2.

After missing out on their spring softball season, the girls softball team got a chance to play in “One Last Game.” The Huskies played the Mustangs and would beat them convincingly, 20-2.
While it wasn’t a KSHSAA sponsored event, KSHSAA gave MSP their permission as long as no school uniforms were worn and the team’s participating couldn’t associate with their schools’ names.
The scoring started early for the Huskies, when in the bottom of the first inning, senior Beth Shniderson would hit a three run homerun to give the Huskies a 4-1 lead. Playing in her last game for the Huskies, Shniderson said it was a good way to end her career.
“It felt really good, it was against my cousin so I’ll never let her live that down,” Shinderson said.
Appearing in her last game for the Huskies, senior CaiLyn Nye said it was great to have been able to get the chance to end it on the field.
“It was awesome, it was so special to get out there one last time with my best friends and coach White,” Nye said.
After the game, Nye was presented the hard hat award. This is an award presented to the teammate who best exhibits all the 21 ways of the hard hat book in their life, and is voted on by the team.
“It was really cool, I actually had knee surgery before the season and wasn’t sure if I’d be able to get back on the field, so the fact that my teammates and coaches recognized my hard work means the world to me,” Nye said.
Coaching the class of 2020 for the last time, head coach Kim White said she was blessed with such a good group and called them one of the best classes the Huskies have had.
“It was great to get them one more game, they’re phenomenal kids and having our season cut short was really hard so to get to send them out like this was pretty awesome,” White said. “I would say the 2020 senior class is one of the best classes to come through Blue Valley Northwest as far as Husky softball, the six seniors we had set an example and are role models that every coach hopes to have.”
Taking the field for the last time with the seniors, junior Olivia Shin said it was a good chance to play with the teammates she’s had since her freshman year.
“It was a lot of fun especially because a lot of my friends are seniors and I’ve played with them ever since I was a freshman so it was really good to have that one last time,” Shin said.
Being the only junior to make the varsity softball team, Shin said she’s looking forward to being a senior leader next year.
“I’m really excited because it’s something new and I havent really had the chance to be one of the main leaders, so it’ll definitely be a new experience and very good,” Shin said.
