Soccer takes down the stags
The soccer team is currently ranked third in state, and a 2-0 win over Bishop Miege gives the team a record of 8-1-1.
The BVNW boys varsity soccer team defeated Bishop Miege tonight with a final score of 2-0. The team improves their record to 8-1-1 and keep their rank as third in the state.
Mere minutes into the game, Senior Ian Arch fired a shot toward the goal from midfield to score BVNW’s first goal of the night and only goal of the half. BVNW had many more opportunities to score that half, but the Miege goal keeper made some spectacular saves that kept the Stags in the game. According to head coach Rick Pribyl, the Husky defense played so well that junior goal keeper Sam Glass did not have to save a single shot the entire game. Pribyl said the team did a better job knocking the ball around in the second half, and half way through, Arch put the ball into the net once more increasing the Huskies lead, 2-0. This would be the last goal scored of the night.
“I think I played pretty well today,” Arch said. “Those were some of my better goals, I thought.”
According to Pribyl, the team was able to control the game by keeping the ball on the ground. One thing the Huskies need to work on, Pribyl said, is to put the ball in the goal.
“The players in general did OK,” Pribyl said. “On a scale of 1-10 they probably played a six game. The two goals by Ian were outstanding goals.”
Arch said while the team did not do as well as they had in the past, they pulled through and Arch believes they played pretty well.
“We need to improve on building a purpose,” Arch said. “A lot of times we are just playing with no strategy or no end game and just shooting to shoot. I think our team played a lot better today than [in prior] games.”
