Taking on the BVHS Tigers, the boys varsity soccer team came out on top, winning the game with a final score of 2-1.

“[BVHS] came out with a lot of intensity and we started off kind of slow,” sophomore Harris DeWoskin said. “We had some great plays for a few people, so thankfully we pulled it out in the end.”

Five min. into the game, BVHS made the first goal of the night, a penalty kick shot by team captain, senior Ben McDonald. Tying up the game, DeWoskin scored the first goal for the Huskies with six min. left in the first quarter, leaving the score 1-1 at halftime.

“After [BVHS] scored the penalty kick, the rest of the game was easy,” head coach Rick Pribyl said. “The boys got frustrated and it made them play harder.”

Although the game remained close for a majority of the night, senior Dean Mohammadi broke the Huskies free of the tie, scoring the second goal of the night and his first goal of the season.

“It felt really great,” Mohammadi said. “This was my first goal ever playing on varsity this season, and that’s all I can say, It was just really great.”

Looking toward the team’s next game against Bishop Miege HS tomorrow night, Pribyl said he hopes the boys can improve upon their teamwork and movement on the field.

“Hopefully we can play better,” Pribyl said. “We just need to knock the ball around a little bit more and hold on to the ball.”
