Head coach Mike Zegunis was pleased with the team’s performance in their first game of the season.
“Any time you win an EKL football game, you can be pretty proud,” Zegunis said. “Our league is pretty tough, they [St. Thomas Aquinas] won the EKL last year, so it’s a good win for us; it’s a good start. It’s better than the alternative, that’s for sure.”
Although he believes they played well in the game, Zegunis knows the team can improve on their game, saying that to keep winning, they have to improve on things they did poorly on.
“There’s definitely room for improvement; I don’t think we played our best ball game,” Zegunis said. “There were times when we made some mistakes and we were penalized a lot.”
Senior Kyle Harrison agrees with Zegunis.
“I think we did great for our first game, it was definitely solid,” Harrison said. “There’s room for improvement, but I think we played great. We just have to get ready for next week.”
Zegunis said he is proud of the team and how they played in the game.
“In terms of our guys giving great effort and fighting, I was really proud of them,” Zegunis said. “First game of the year, that’s tough.”
