Boys soccer loses to St. James in second round of Fat Cat Tournament

The boys varsity soccer team lost to St. James Academy 7-8 tonight. The Huskies will go on to play for third place in the tournament this Saturday against either Blue Valley West or Topeka West.

The boys varsity soccer team lost to St. James Academy 7-8 at Blue Valley West. The game started at 5:00 p.m. September 4. It was part of the second round in the 2013 Fat Cat Boys Soccer Tournament.

By halftime, neither team had scored. At the end of the second half, the score remained tied. After regulation play, the game went into penalty kicks to determine which team would move on in the tournament. During penalty kicks, BVNW scored 7 goals, while St. James defeated BVNW by scoring 8.

“When you go to penalty kicks, you flip a coin,” BVNW head coach Rick Pribyl said. “We have to focus on the game, and we stepped up by a tenfold tonight. If we play this well and keep building, we’ll get by fine.”

According to senior Sam Taylor, the team will go on to play for third place in the tournament Saturday against either BVW or Topeka West. Taylor said that they had a good shot at defeating St. James, and is disappointed they lost tonight.

“To improve, we are just going to work on holding the ball and finishing strong,” Taylor said.
