Walking into Jinkies coffee, with loads of natural light and hints of color with the art pieces on the walls, is a very inviting experience. The tables and chairs give off a modern feel with the neutral color pallet with the mixture of metals, but these elements are balanced nicely with bright colored furniture pieces that line the walls. Framed posters and funky-shaped lighting draws the eye towards a corner that highlights a wall filled with records, providing an alternative place to study, read or drink coffee with friends.

When ordering at the eye-catching aqua counter, the staff was quick to greet and answer any questions regarding their different menu items. Along with the standard coffee shop favorites, Jinkies has lots of creative menu items that blend nicely with their 70s themed shop. Their spring special menu items give customers lots of variety if they would like to branch out from typical lattes, teas and mochas, where their names reflect the unique flavors included in the drink, such as “Charm-a-licious” and “Flower Power.” Paired with their seasonal specials, the “Groovy Side” and “Yummy Side” of their menu offers tons of options for all customers to leave the shop satisfied, from pastries, quirky flavored lattes or just a standard cup of joe.

“Here Comes the Sun” – 4.5/5
This beautifully layered drink was a nice refreshing alternative to the many coffee based drinks served at Jinkies. The sparkling raspberry hibiscus tea left the sun-colored drink fizzy, which contrasted nicely with the light taste of orange. None of the flavors are super overbearing, rather they provide the bubbles from sparking tea to steal the show, along with the colors of the drink itself. Named perfectly, “Here Comes the Sun” is a perfect choice for any hot day.

“Cookie Dough Latte” – 3/5
When asked what the most popular drink was, Jinkies staff said that this one took the cake. Served both hot and cold, this latte has cookie dough syrup paired with their secret house sauce, along with chocolate drizzled in the cup. Here, the syrups overshined the coffee in the drink, where only the sweetness of the chocolate was able to be tasted. The unique flavors of this drink were very welcomed, but took away from the main point of the drink: the coffee.

“Cinnamon Muffin” – 4/5
Along with their menu of unique drinks, Jinkies also serves sweet treats from cookies to standard breakfast pastries made in house daily. This morning staple did not disappoint, with its strong cinnamon flavor cutting the sweetness from the other drinks. The muffin itself is quite large and could be shared with others, especially paired with a drink. The crunchy outside complimented the inside well, making it a great combo for any drink.

“PepperMint Patty Latte” – 5/5
As one of the spring specials, this green tinted latte was a little scary at first but was incredibly rewarding at first taste. The drink contained pieces of peppermint patties allowing for the mint and chocolate flavors to compliment the iced coffee nicely. Don’t be fooled by the green color, this drink the favorite and definitely would be a recommendation for anyone who enjoys peppermint patties.

Jinkies took a new spin on the traditional coffee shop, expanding their menus to cater to coffee lovers and opponents alike. The themed decor and welcoming atmosphere makes for a great place to study, hang out with friends or grab the morning pick-me-up. For anyone looking to expand their coffee horizons, Jinkies! Coffee and Hangout would definitely be a place to put on the list to try.
