Coming off of a tough loss in the first round of substate in the girl’s volleyball 2016 season, head coach Molly Haggerty hopes to recover this year and create a shot at making the state tournament.

“We obviously want to be in the top three in the EKL,” Haggerty said. “We always want to be able to bring home a substate championship and make a trip to state. So I think a realistic goal for us would be to finish in the top four at state this year.”

In an effort to find an opportunity to play in late October, the volleyball team is led by senior Anna Chalupa, who looks to return to the state tournament as well. Chalupa believes the leadership on the team this year is strong.

“We have other seniors who work hard all the time and make a very strong example for the underclassmen as to what the expectation is and how hard they should be working,” Chalupa said.

Haggerty and Chalupa both agree that the team chemistry and bond is a key factor to the success of the team.

“I would say I am looking most forward to seeing the pieces of the puzzle come together. That’s kind of the fun thing about high school sports is we are given what we are given and we have to make the most of it and do the best we can and try to get better every single day,” Haggerty said. “So, I really like piecing the puzzles, see what is going to be the best fit for our team on the court, off the court and seeing the chemistry develop and come together.”
