When I heard that Fortnite had collaborated with “The Simpsons,” I knew I had to check it out. All jokes aside, I was really excited to see the new map, emotes and skins Fortnite had put into the game.
On Nov. 1, Fortnite, developed by Epic Games, began its month-long collaboration with “The Simpsons,” ending on Nov. 29. Although Fortnite has done hundreds of collaborations, like Star Wars, Avengers and Tyler the Creator, “The Simpsons” brought a newfound interest to Fortnite players. Although the game had been seeing a decline in players in recent years, the collaboration brought players back to the game they love, giving it a second life. In this month-long event, Epic Games created new locations, weapons and skins that were special to “The Simpsons.”
Skins like Ned Flanders, Homer and Marge are found in the battle pass, but others like Bart are found in the item shop. The most unique locations were Springfield’s Nuclear Power Plant, which includes two massive cooling towers, and Homers job office, Burns Mayor, featuring a massive mansion and Burns’ iconic office and Kamp Krusty, showcasing a big lake and little cabins. These iconic locations were fun to visit and were abundant with loot. The easter eggs players could find were answering prank calls from Moe’s Tavern, knocking down Lard Lad’s doughnut in reference to an episode called Treehouse of Horror IV. Players can also thank Otto the bus driver before dropping onto the map. Without a doubt, it was a cool surprise to “The Simpsons” and Fortnite community. I really enjoyed the layout of the map, including all points of interest and niche locations that are unexpected, like Springfield’s Tire Yard. Although many special weapons and heals were added to the game, the most notable were Bart’s Slingshot, Mr Blasty Revolver and the Krusty Burger. All of which were rare to find, except the Krusty Burger.
Although the character skins and new locations were fun additions to the collaboration, the selection of weapons was very limited. These could have been improved by removing Infantry Rifles and Ranger Shotguns, by replacing them with the original Assault Rifle and Pump Shotgun.
Overall, this collaboration is 8/10 because of the fun easter eggs, unique points of interest and the addition of skins from the characters of “The Simpsons.” I think this collaboration brought a newfound twist to Fortnite, and they should make more fun collaborations like this one. This definitely isn’t the last collaboration, and I am excited to see what comes next.
