Beginning as a defensive battle for most of the first half, the first goal of the game did not come until senior Luke Rahto scored a goal with 4:38 remaining in the first half. Head coach Brian Pollack said the team played well in the first half, but could not capitalize on some opportunities.

“I think we were doing the right things, but [Basehor-Linwood] was doing well defensively and we weren’t able to crack them,” Pollack said. “I told the team to be patient and to not break away from what we were doing and the goals would come.”

The Huskies did just as Pollack said as sophomore Sam McIntosh scored a goal less than a minute into the second half. McIntosh said the team did a good job spreading the ball around and it led to goals in the second half.

“Tonight we moved the ball pretty well, one to two touches, and it led to us scoring goals,” McIntosh said.

After the goal early in the half, Pollack said the Huskies began to feel more comfortable as the Bobcats began to let their guard down.

“We got that second goal early and after that they let down and we gained more comfort as we realized we shouldn’t be ahead by more,” Pollack said.

Senior Cole Miller would add on to the scoring with a goal with 28:00 remaining in the second half that extended the Huskies lead, 3-0. Later in the half, McIntosh would score his second and third goals of the night less than a minute apart, sealing the game for the Huskies.

McIntosh said it felt good to get a hat trick as he had been playing more of a passer role, prior to Wednesday night’s game.

“It always feels great to score, but it was extra special tonight because I hadn’t been scoring very much this season,” McIntosh said.

The Huskies play their next game Thursday, Oct. 15 against St. James. They are scheduled to kick off at 6:30 at the DAC.
