Going into the substate championship game, the Huskies were coming off a 6-1 win over Olathe South. The varsity soccer team was looking to keep the momentum going against Shawnee Mission East.

Never trailing in almost all of a tightly contested game, the Huskies were poised to win the substate championship against the Lancers, leading with seven minutes remaining in the second half. After a late rally by Shawnee Mission East to end the second half and scoring in overtime, BVNW came up short.

Coach Brian Pollack talked about the significance of the 10 seniors on the varsity soccer team this season.

“The seniors are everything,” Pollack said. “They have been through it all and they truly represent Northwest.”

Junior Luke Rahto said the team will not be the same next without the ten seniors that lead the team this season.

“I think the captain’s especially played a really big role,” Rahto said. “Next year is going to be a really big change and we’re gonna have to adapt quickly.”

The varsity soccer season ends the season with a winning record of 10-5-3.
