In the first game of their season, the boys’ varsity soccer team managed to keep the Blue Valley North Mustangs scoreless. Assisted by Dylan Colle, senior Sam Stecher scored the only goal of the night with 13:59 remaining in the first half.

“We were ready to bring it to [BVN] from the start, we had the mentality beforehand to win, and that’s what we did,” Stecher said.

Head coach of the BVNW boys’ varsity team, Brian Pollack, added that the best moment of the game was to see Stecher have his hard work pay off by getting the first goal of the season.

“[Stecher] has worked incredibly hard, he deserves everything that comes his way,” Pollack said.

Furthermore, senior defender Daniel Li said that he hopes the boys will use tonight’s win as momentum going forward so that they can achieve their overall season goal of winning state.

“I think we need to keep this momentum going and we will definitely have a chance at the state championship which is our goal,” Li said.

With the rivalry game behind them, Pollack said their focus will be put on the rest of their season.

“The boys will tell you that there is no game until this one is over, there is no season, so now that this game is behind us and it is a win, we can focus on the rest of the season,” Pollack said.

The BVNW boys’ varsity soccer team will play JC Harmon at the ADAC on September 3 at 5:00 p.m.
