The Blue Valley Northwest girls basketball team dropped their home game against Blue Valley North, 49-62. BVNW got out early and was up by 12-5 in the first quarter, but allowed BVN to score 10 unanswered points and they were never able to regain the lead. Seniors Abby Bird and Raegan Phillips combined for 25 of the Huskies 49 points. Head coach Brian Bubalo said the team did not set up their defense fast enough, allowing BVN to score.

“We were trying to get into a press and we didn’t do a good job at getting back to stop the fast break,” Bubalo said. “They were faster than us.”

On the flip side, Bubalo said the team had a hard time getting shots to fall throughout the game.

“We didn’t shoot very good tonight,” Bubalo said. “If you aren’t shooting better, you got to rebound better.”

Moving forward, Phillips said the team must work together if they want to get a better outcome.

“We need to be ready to have our whole hearts in it and be ready to play together as a team,” Phillips said.
The Huskies fall to 5-6 on the season. Their next game will be against Shawnee Mission West at 7:00 p.m. Friday Jan. 25 at BVNW.
