BVNW defeated SMN, 58-47, extending the Huskies win streak to two. After leading SMN by four points at half, 23-19, BVNW widened their tight lead, scoring 19 points in the third quarter. Head coach Brian Bubalo said the team thrived in taking shots that they were capable of making, unlike some shots they took in the first half.

“In the third quarter, we were passing, moving and getting shots inside the arc,” Bubalo said. “We did a nice job of playing together as a team.”

Senior Abby Bird said the team succeeded in jumping out to a strong start and playing as a unit during the first few minutes of the third quarter.

“We all worked together,” Bird said. “Sometimes we [play] individually but we worked as a team this time.”

Bubalo said there was a defensive lapse in the middle of the fourth quarter, allowing SMN to narrow BVNW’s lead.

“We’re going to sharpen up our defense and try to build on the offensive success that we have,” Bubalo said.

The Huskies will play their next game at Pittsburg High against Tulsa East Central. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. on Jan. 19.
