The boys varsity basketball team defeated Blue Valley North after a four minute period of overtime last night at BVN with a final score of 64-57.

The game started with a lead for BVN. BVNW trailed behind BVN in the beginning with a first quarter score of 12-15.

Junior AJ Pleasant said the players were not worried, but they knew they were not playing as well as they could.

“We kind of just had to refocus and lock back in and just play the way we know how to play,” Pleasant said.

BVNW took the lead, and by halftime the score was 30-28. For the rest of the game, the lead bounced between BVN and BVNW until finally fourth quarter ended with a tie.

Head coach Ed Fritz said he hoped his team could get back ahead, and he hoped they would get points on their free throws.

“I was just hoping that we could get a lead and get our foul shots, which we did well on,” Fritz said.

According to Pleasant, the team didn’t have trouble focusing on what needed to be done once the four minutes of overtime began.

“We all were calm,” Pleasant said. “We just locked in, just stuck to our game plan and we got the win.”

The team now has another game under their belt with just three games remaining in the regular season. Pleasant said this win will help them get into the playoffs, and eventually to the team’s ultimate goal, the state championship.

“We just have to keep grinding, and playing hard, and go or our goal, which is to win state.” Pleasant said.
