The boys varsity basketball team defeated Blue Valley North last night at BVNW, with a final score of 51-47. After trailing close behind BVN for the majority of the game, the Huskies came back in the fourth quarter.

At the end of the first quarter, BVNW trailed, 11-16, and they finished the second half behind, 22-26.

“We’re pretty evenly matched teams, but we kinda fell behind early,” said Ed Fritz, the coach for BVNW. “We kept battling. We finally got a lead, and that helped us gain a little momentum.”

At the end of the third quarter, BVNW and BVN were tied, 38-38, but a technical foul on BVNW led to BVN scoring an additional two points. BVNW went into the fourth quarter catching up, 38-40.

“We started to rebound a little better at the end and that helped us,” Fritz said.

BVNW varsity player junior AJ Pleasant said the second half was crucial to the rebound of the team and their defeat.

“We couldn’t really get to our pace in the first half.” Pleasant said. “When the second half started we really got after it: drive, hit our shots, play good defense – and that’s how we got the win.”

BVNW will go into their game Tuesday at Blue Valley High with a record of 9-3. BVH’s record is 9-2.

“We’ve been running our game plan and trying to do that the best we can,” Pleasant said.
