The boys golf team is starting up for the season. Bringing back five seniors, three of whom were previous varsity players, the team has a good make-up of skilled players, according to head coach, Robert Meacham.

“They’re hard workers,” Meacham said. “They seem to get along great. Usually chemistry isn’t too much of a problem.”

Last year, the team had placed third in league, forth at regionals, and sent one individually to state. According to Meacham, the team is hopeful for regionals, having the advantage of practicing on the course in which regionals takes place. He hopes to finish in the top five of one of the five major tournaments and send the team to state.

“[Getting to state] has been tough on us the past six to seven years,” Meacham said. “We already had a kid in our first tournament tie for an individual title, which is always nice.”

Senior Grant Keonig claims the team has a lot of talent and will hopefully place in tournaments this coming year.

“I’m excited to get out with the team,” Keonig said. “We have a good team this year, pretty competitive.”

Both Meacham and Keoing say the team needs to work on their short game, putting, chipping and performing around the greens.

“Our putting is pretty poor and it’s costing us,” Meacham said. “[We need to] get where we’re doing something automatically and not have to think about it. Students who do that are the teams that do well in tournaments.”
