The boys varsity basketball team defeated Blue Valley High (BVHS) on Thursday with a final score of 79-48, bringing their season record to 15-2.

Within the beginning 30 seconds senior Kyle Harrison made the first basket, leading BVNW with a score of 3-0. By end of the first quarter, BVNW remained ahead with 23-8, then 40-18 at halftime, and 61-32 at the end of the third quarter.

Both Harrison and head coach Ed Fritz thought the team shot the ball well and played well as a team all-around. According to Fritz, the highlight of the game was Harrison’s performance and his ability to make good shots and score many of the Huskies points.

For Fritz, the biggest challenge during the game was facing BVHS’s initial season record (8-8), and competing opposite the BVHS coach who was formerly the boys JV basketball coach at BVNW (Dwight Williams).

“We’re going against a good team and it’s always hard to go against a guy you like,” Fritz said. “I really like their coach a lot so that’s hard, but it’s something you have to do.”

Although the boys won the game, Harrison and Fritz both agree the team needs to work on their defensive tactics for their senior night game tomorrow night against BVW.

“I think our post-defense could have been better…and probably [stopping] their inside game, because they had some really good post-guys,” Harrison said.

Harrison is looking forward to the team improving their defense as well as their techniques with handling and passing the ball. He hopes all the seniors play a great game and enjoy their senior night together on Friday.
