The boys varsity basketball team defeated Saint Thomas Aquinas (STA) last Friday after a devastating loss against Blue Valley North (BVN) the previous week at home. Head coach Ed Fritz said the team was focusing more on playing like a team, passing the ball well and playing better all around.

The team scored a total of 79 points and senior Clayton Custer started the game off with a bang by quickly putting points on the board with three lay-ups within the first five minutes of the game. The team fed off of the energy and scored a fast 24 points in the first quarter. STA trailed behind with 14 points.

As half time approached, the team had scored 50 points and STA followed with 29. The first half was fast paced with a lot of action. The team was passing the ball well, stealing and senior David Salach made his first dunk out of two attempts.

“We shot the ball well in the first half, which I think helped. We got some easy shots,” said Fritz.

During the third quarter, more fouls were called on both teams, slowing the pace of the game down. However, the Huskies still managed to claim the lead with a score of 63-39. Fritz said his team didn’t play as well the second half.

“The game was kind of over for [STA] by then,” said Fritz. “But we still need to work on every aspect of our game.”
