The boys varsity soccer team beat Olathe South tonight, with a final score of 2-0. Tonight’s game was their senior night and final regular season game; this win brought their final regular season record to 12-3-1.

The game started off very quickly, with senior Ian Arch scoring the team’s first goal within minutes of the start.  Neither team scored the rest of the first half, leaving the score 1-0 at halftime. Senior Sam Taylor scored the second and final goal of the game, four minutes into the second half.

Head coach Rick Pribyl said the team played better in the first half, because the early goal set a good tempo for the rest of the game.

“Having an early goal made it a lot easier for us [to win],” Pribyl said.

Center defensive player senior Tyler Schwerdtfeger said the team had a lot of shots on goal and they created many chances for themselves. But, with regional and state post-season games coming up, Schwerdtfeger said that the team needs to stay consistent every single game.

“[We need to] come out and play like we want to win,” Schwerdtfeger said.

Pribyl said that despite the fact that there is always room for improvement, the team has improved in every facet of their game this season.

“[The season] went the way it was supposed to go – the good guys won,” Pribyl said. “We have a new season of five games if we’re going to win state, and we intend to win all five games.”
