Sophomore Cody Blevins participates in track and field, but he also plays Blue Valley recreational basketball for the Honey Badgers. He said he enjoys playing with his teammates and hanging out with his friends. Although Blevins said playing in the team is relaxed, the atmosphere on the court is very exciting.
“I made a three pointer three steps behind the three point line, and the crowd went crazy,” Blevins said. “Everybody was screaming.”

Sophomore Austin Edmondson swims for BVNW’s Swim team, but he also plays for the 9.5Men which are nine boys playing for a recreational team. Even though playing the sport can be serious at times there are also funny stories that go along with playing the sport Edmondson said.
“When we were playing the Southwest team, during halftime, one of their moms brought in juice boxes for them,” Edmondson said. “And they gave our team some to, it was apple juice…..and Elmo was on the front of it.”

Junior Keenan George participates in recreational basketball in his free time during the winter season. George said he plays for the Majestic Orangutans with other students from BVNW. While he enjoys playing rec basketball, he said he has also made mistakes on the court.
“When my friend was shooting free throws, I walked into the lane too early and he got four more free throws,” George said.

Senior Adam Bevil said that even though playing for the basketball team at BVNW is fun, rec basketball is more relaxed and you only have to play on Sundays. Bevil also said that while playing at the rec basketball tournament there were some funny incidents that occurred.
“Last year in the tournament a boy from the opposing team started a fight with one of the referees, and got kicked out of the game,” Bevil said.
Bevil said that he plays for the Bulldogs who are the defending champions and league champions. The team is also having an undefeated season so far winning four games and losing zero. Bevil said that he has also had an awesome time playing for his Coach Deb Gustafson.
“I really enjoy the sport and hanging out with my friends makes it even better,” said Bevil.
