The boys swim and dive team qualified twelve of it’s members for state and according to head coach Kyle Farrington, the state tournament could not have gone better.

Out of all those who placed, senior Jesse Musser won two state titles. He took first in the 200 free final with a time of 1:39.47 min and took first in the 500 free final with a time of 4:32.06 min. Senior Gavin Mulkey took twelfth place in both the 200 IM final and in the 100 yard breaststroke.

From the diving team, Senior Trey Winkley took fifteenth in the 1 Meter Diving final with a score of 259.70.

The 200 Medley Relay team consisting of Mulkey, juniors Marcus Winslow and Logan Ashe and freshman Jackson Wells took eleventh with a time of 1:45.12 min. The 200 Yard Freestyle Relay team consisting of Wells, Ashe, Mulkey and Musser took eighth place with a time of 1:31.92 min. The 400 Free Relay team consisting of seniors Musser and Trevor Thomas and juniors Winslow and Jeremy Grenell took tenth place with a time of 3:21.39 min.

Farrington said he attributes the success of the team this year to the senior leadership. All of the seniors but Musser started swimming when they were freshman, Farrington said, and they have had really great work ethic over the course of the year. The team had a 92 percent practice attendance over the course of the season, Farrington said, and the seniors set the tone for everyone to follow.

“[At the state meet] we had time cuts across the board,” Farrinton said. “We only had one event not come back on the second day, which means all of those swims from day one were top 16 swims, which was great. Our relays placed better than I think anybody thought they would. We were able to win two state titles… The second day was a little better than the first, overall the times improved on the second day. It really could not have gone better.”
