I have recently been discovering things about myself. I find myself confused, angry, and stressed out about every little thing. What can I do to get over this and be myself? How can I get my friends to accept me for who I am? What do I do if they don’t accept me?
Answer:
Dear anonymous,
Aristotle once said “Knowing yourself is the beginning of all wisdom.”
As a high schooler, self-discovery is expected. People are bound to realize new things about themselves through their experiences. Self-growth is positive. Don’t let yourself think about it too much. Take a deep breath and relax. There is no need to be apprehensive about self-discovery. You may feel uncomfortable about some of the things you learn about yourself, but over time, you’ll learn to accept these realizations for the better. Don’t you, out of all people, want to know you the best?
Also, don’t ignore self-discovery, deny it, or cover it up for anyone. I’m not saying you should talk about it with everyone, but you should be able to openly discuss it with your close friends. Use them for support, guidance and to vent out frustrations. I know this sounds cliché, but if your friends don’t accept you for who you are, then they’re not really your friends and you should move on and find friends who are accepting.
