The BVNW community gathered in the gymnasium after school yesterday in order to congratulate all fall sports on a successful season. However, the highlight of the event was a tribute to the boys soccer team winning the state championship earlier this weekend.

“I think fall sports sets the tone for how high school goes,” athletic director Steve Harms said. “We always challenge our fall coaches because how they do is how our school year is going to go. They set a great tone so I’m very proud of them.”

This is only the second time in school history that the boys soccer team won state, so it was particularly special for the athletes involved in the program, Harms said.

“I thought this season went really well for us this year,” junior Austin Flores said. “I was really happy how we ended up.”

Many of the younger players on the team are already focused on doing well next season.

“Next year we’re coming back for seconds,” sophomore Andrew Binder said.

“I think it’s a tremendous accomplishment how far they came from the beginning of the year to the end of the year,” Harms said. “It’s a great tribute to our coaches.”
