The BVNW Howlin’ Husky marching band hosted their annual Glow Show on Oct. 26. This year’s theme was Ray Charles: The Genius of Soul.

The band was directed by John Selzer, who had high goals for the group this year. According to Selzer, the show was great all around, and the band performed well.

“I thought that the thing we did best on was focus,” Selzer said. “When showtime came, no matter how excited [the performers] were, they focused and put on a good show.”

Selzer also stated that he noticed significant improvements from last year’s performance.

“I noticed that our overall coordination was better,” Selzer said. “Also, our parent coordinators worked like a machine. Everything went smoothly, and our performance went well because of their work.”

According to Selzer, any minor issues were not those of the band, but instead the band leaders.

“[The problems were] mostly a couple of small director things,” Selzer said. “They can easily be fixed. A few organizational problems [can be fixed] also.”

Cymbals player Noah Kraemer performed with the drum line during the pre-show and during the show. Kraemer said he was very satisfied with the band’s performance.

“Overall, we did well,” Kraemer said. “I think we improved on not only our skill, but our overall effect on the show. We had more experience with it with all.”

According to Kraemer, he noticed multiple issues with the performance.

“We should definitely have improved on marching,” Kraemer said. “A lot of us couldn’t see the field very well, so we got mixed up on our places. Also, the new marchers don’t know the routine as well as the more experienced members do.”

Even with all the achievements and difficulties that came with the presentation, both Selzer and Kraemer agree that they’ll keep striving to do their best and make the future performances better.

“We’ll keep improving in every area,” Kraemer said. “We all want to be the best we can be, while not straying away from what we are at the heart.”
