For the 2013-2014 school year, Muse, the literary arts magazine at BVNW, will no longer be a class due to low enrollment. Instead it will be an after school club, Muse advisor Sarah Beren said. What this means for the students involved in the program is that they will not meet every day during school hours. Instead, they will meet after school in order to work on the publication.

The change of schedule also comes with a change of requirements, Beren said. Muse has been around since the opening of the school. Before, if students wanted to join Muse, they had to have passed freshman English Language Arts. Now, current freshmen can also join. Beren said this year the program will be much less structured.

“We can’t hold kids responsible for not showing up to meetings,”Beren said. “Whereas if Muse was a class, we could hold a student responsible for not showing up because it would count against their grade.”

Muse editor-in-chief Paige Kenney said she is excited for the new freshmen to join, as she thinks it will be a remarkable group of students. Beren agrees and said she is excited for the club’s new year.

“I cannot wait to see the new talent that is brought into the group and submitted by the school’s staff and students,” Beren said.

Upcoming meetings for Muse will be held September 11, October 2, November 6 and December 11. Muse will also be hosting Café Muse in the little theater October 28 from 7-9 p.m.
