Jack Nitz is a senior and the Sports Editor of “The Express.” Outside of newspaper he is the Senior Class President, the DECA treasurer, National Honor Society membership co-chair, and a member of Quill and Scroll Honor Society and Spanish National Honor Society. In his free time Jack enjoys spending time with friends, watching and playing sports and talking about Fantasy Football. Jack is looking forward to covering BVNW sports this year and hopes to improve on his leadership and writing skills this year.
Second quarter update
March 12, 2022
Wichita Heights opened the second quarter on a 6-0 run, taking a 21-2 lead with six minutes remaining in the quarter. Senior Mikey Pauley tacked on two free throws for the Huskies to make the score 21-4. The Falcons responded by making an open layup off a backdoor pass.
After a timeout by Wichita Heights, senior Joey Robinson got a steal, got fouled, and made both shots of the one-and-one. The Huskies got a stop on defense and Robinson found Matteoni for a layup in transition to make the score 23-8. However, the Falcons responded yet again with a three.
On back to back possessions, Pauley and Matteoni went two for two from the free throw line to shorten the Falcons lead to 14. Pauley and junior Grant Stubblefield then went one for two from the free throw line on back to back possessions to make the score 26-14. The Falcons made a layup in transition, but Stubblefield responded with a three and the Huskies went into halftime trailing, 28-14.
