Girls Tennis
After a strong third place finish at state last year, the girls tennis team has a big task ahead of them for the current season. With a 2018 graduating class of 16 seniors, the team lost a large group of athletes. This year they have a team of 38 girls, 17 of them new. However, senior captain Hannah Thurlby said she is excited to see how the team grows this year.
“I’m really excited to see where we go this season,” Thurlby said. “I’m excited for us to work hard.”
With a large group of new players, head coach Ted Fabiano said this year will provide an opportunity to grow as a team. Fabiano also said he is looking forward to a season with great leadership from the returning players and an overall more positive attitude from the team.
“We don’t have as much experience as last year, but thankfully we have several girls who can show the others the right way,” Fabiano said.
Attempting to sustain the success of last year’s team, Thurlby said she is eager to see what this year’s team is capable of.
“I think we’ll win a lot of our duel matches [this year],” Thurlby said, “We usually place only behind North and Shawnee Mission East so I’m hoping we can win, and I think we have a lot of potential to do that.”
