Boys soccer
With being knocked out of the regional playoffs last season, the boys soccer team is looking to find a way back to state. Interim head coach Brian Pollack said he has assembled a group of players that he believes are really talented and said their dedication and work ethic alone will make them a contender in every game, although there will be some challenges.
“I think the biggest challenge is finding our team’s identity,” Pollack said. “This will ultimately be how we’ll be judged and not just for the 80 minutes we are playing.”
Senior captain Nick Barner said in the games this season the team looks not only to garner more success, but to be more critical of their mistakes. With a new coach at the varsity level, Barner said there has been a visible shift from last year.
“We’re getting used to the new style of play with the new coaches” Barner said. “Our mindset is right for the games, especially for state.”
After concluding tryouts last week, Pollack said he believes that every one of his players has the amount of skill and determination to be a varsity level contender for years to come.
“Everyone of those players has earned their spot and their play is up to varsity level,” Pollack said. “Knowing that they have truly earned where their at and that this select group is a pretty tight, I think this is what sets them apart.”
