BVNW hosts Friday sporting funanza
January 9, 2014
Blue Valley Northwest will host not one, not two, but three different sporting activities Friday evening. The boys basketball teams, wrestling team, and boys swim and dive will all be competing in various games and events. According to athletic director Steve Harms, this is an annual event that has taken place since the school opened. The idea originated when the wrestling program wanted to advertise their team and gain a bigger audience. Harms said the addition of the swim and dive team is new to this year, and he predicts a very successful evening.
The sophomore boy’s basketball team will play BVHS at 4:00 p.m. in the main gym. The JV boy’s basketball team and the wrestling team will take on BVHS at 5:30 p.m., basketball will be in the main gym and wrestling will be in the auxiliary. Boy’s Swim and Dive competes in the Friday Night Lights Meet against Olathe East at 6:00 p.m. To top off the evening the varsity boy’s basketball team will play BVHS at 7:00 p.m. in the main gym.
Due to the timing of these events, the school will be closed prior to 4:00 p.m. and tickets will be sold beginning at 5:00 p.m. Should a member of the community wish to watch the sophomore boy’s basketball game at 4:00 p.m. in the main gym, they will be allowed to enter and not be required to pay. The pricing has been set at $4.00 for students and $6.00 for adults, and activity passes will be honored. Once admitted, a fan will be able to attend a chili fundraiser hosted by the boys basketball team ($5.00 per bowl of chili) or buy baked goods from the girl’s basketball Susan G. Komen cookie fundraiser ($1.00 per two cookies). The ticket purchased allows the buyer to watch any of the events taking place.
