On Thurs, Jan. 10, the BVNW girls varsity basketball team was defeated by the Gardner Edgerton Blazers with a score of 34-42.
BVNW kept a consistent lead throughout the entire game up until the fourth quarter. The first half concluded with BVNW 18, GE 16, and BVNW continued to stay ahead in the third quarter, ending 29-25. The Blazers pulled ahead midway through the fourth quarter and kept ahead until the end. Head coach David Glenn said that even though the team’s effort was great, it was the small mistakes that got them.
“We started off strong, and we just had a few things here and there, a few mistakes that we can’t really make in this game,” Glenn said.
The varsity record for the girls is now 4-4. Glenn said in order to pull their record up to a winning status, the team needs to keep up the perseverance and just work on fixing the small things.
“We need to continue the great effort we had for this game,” Glenn said. “We had good leadership on defense, and kept in it the whole time, so I want to just build off of that and have longer periods of being mistake-free.”
The team will play next in the Oak Park Tournament, beginning on Tues, Jan. 15.
