Girls Varsity Basketball Defeated By BVSW

The BVNW girls varsity basketball team was defeated by BVSW with a final score of 23-60.

Trailing behind BVSW through the first half, the girls had 11 turnovers. Senior Madison Jones, who scored BVNW’s first point of the night, said the team did not have a strong defensive strategy, which hurt their game.

“We didn’t have a strategy to break their press, so we were rushed and started making a lot of turn overs,” Jones said. “We needed to not force our shots, and just work together as a team more.”

BVWN concluded the first half of the game with a score of 12-35.

The gap between the teams’ scores widened during the second half.  Freshman Mya Mertz who was fouled four times during the second half, said the girls began to step up their game after halftime, but it was still not enough to take the victory.

“I think we picked up our game in the second half; our team’s defense got better,” Mertz said.

Looking toward the remainder of the season, the two said their team will need to focus on being a cohesive group on the court to be more successful.

“We still need to improve our game a lot more. Playing as a team and just playing harder will definitely be things we work on for our next games.”
