An email sent by superintendent Todd White announced that Blue Valley Northwest will hold its graduation on July 31 starting at 10:30 a.m at the DAC.
“The Class of 2020 has earned a celebratory send-off, just like the seniors who came before them,” White said.
White expressed the importance for a proper send-off for the Class of 2020, recognizing that moving the ceremony to later in the summer could lead to inconveniences. Still, he expressed the need for an in-person graduation ceremony.
“From our ThoughtExchange to school and district-wide committees, students provided thoughtful and meaningful feedback into what was important to them: a face-to-face graduation opportunity,” White said.
Throughout his message, White expressed how proud he was of the senior class in these unprecedented times. He detailed that the Class of 2020 showed their ability to face adversity and persevere.
“I admire your ability to face adversity and keep moving forward,” White said. “While it may not be the senior year ending the way you dreamed of, it will be your senior year, memorable and unique among your peers.”
With these new plans, White said that school principals from the five Blue Valley high schools will release additional information in the coming days.

As a concerned parent and a front line healthcare worker, the notion that the BV district is going through with this graduation leaves me speechless. I ask that you get the name of every person that attends this event and then do a follow up about 3-4 weeks after the event with each attendee to see how many contracted COVID. Yes, this is a once in a lifetime event for these children and all of us parents, but we really need to be conscientious about our actions. I would rather see my child graduate college than run the risk of contracting COVID and possibly not be alive to witness that more impressive accolade.
