Sophomore Christopher Quinn said he already notices his sophomore year is not as difficult as he thought it would be. He said his first few weeks of school are going well, and he enjoys all of his classes. “[My favorite class is] either Debate or Latin, because Latin goes more in depth into the material and Debate is a more focused class where you just have to be working the whole time, you can not really slack off,” Quinn said. Quinn is already making plans and goals for this year, including getting a job this summer. He hopes to be apart of the Kansas Junior Classical League to further his debate career. Most importantly, Quinn hopes husky halftime stays in the schedule. Senior Erin Cangelose said her senior year is a bit different than most students. She said most students’ senior year can be considered their easiest year. “I’ve heard [senior year] is people’s easy year and they take all their easy classes, but I did not take any easy classes because i’m trying to get some more credits,” Cangelose said. “So far this year has not been easy…it’s kind of beating me down a little bit,” Cangelose said. Cangelose said the best class she’s ever taken is Sociology with Mr. Christensen this year. She is also participating in AVID, her fourth year in a row. “I really hope I don’t fail Advanced Algebra, or Chemistry because I just should have taken that sophomore year,” Cangelose said. “[I] could have gotten that stuff done.” Cangelose has many goals for this upcoming year, such as making all A’s and B’s, continue on in Choral choir, and the musical which she is looking forward to. “I just hope I do well and I hope I can keep it together” Cangelose said.
Junior Laura Bredemeier, shares her predictions for her upcoming junior year. “So far, so good,” Bredemeier said. “I’ve gotten a lot of homework so far but that’s a given. I do really like my classes.” Bredemeier said going into this school year she was told junior year was the hardest year due to the challenging classes and preparing for college. She said she knows it is going to be a tough year and hopes she can keep her grades up in order to get accepted into a good college. She said she accepts the overwhelming homework load especially with volleyball season, a sport she participates in, in full swing. “We are hoping for state this year, we want to win it!” Bredemeier said. “I think it will go pretty well, so far we are doing really well and we will just continue to improve,” she said. In the future, Bredemeier is hoping to continue her volleyball career depending on how this volleyball season plays out. Bredemeier is also looking forward to starting her nannying job second semester and hopes to meet new people this school year by expanding her horizons.
Freshman Megan Lu said her first year of high school is going well so far. She said the first few weeks of school have already turned out differently than expected, due to the amount of quizzes and tests each week. “I feel that everybody has been lied to and that the media has pressured and basically mind controled everybody to think high school is supposed to be the best four years of your life…you’re supposed to go out and save the world, or fix the government, or have an amazing love story,” Lu said. “It’s very unrealistic.” Lu predicts she will work on getting a good work ethic for her next four years at BVNW, along with establishing a normal sleep schedule. Lu makes it her goal to get involved and not be so afraid to talk to people. “The little girl inside of me is still hoping for some kind of big love romance, but I don’t know if that will happen, Lu said, “I also hope I make some new friends too.” Lu said she hopes to take high school one step at a time and not worry about the ACT or college too much.
