Seasonal sips: which fall drink is worth your sip?

Chief Writer Blen Belachew reviews three fall-themed iced drinks in the KC area.

McDonalds: 1/5

I would consider myself a fan of pumpkin-themed drinks and I was looking forward to a relaxing, classic pumpkin spice drink. While it was at an affordable price of $2.39, the Iced Pumpkin Spice Latte from McDonalds did not meet my expectations. Unlike the Dutch Bros drink drizzle, this drizzle was overbearing and contained strong hints of pumpkin and cinnamon flavors that were discomforting for my taste buds. It tasted really sweet and bitter, leaving behind an uncomfortable aftertaste to the point where I could not finish the drink. Unfortunately, the coffee doesn’t help this drink case either. I would not recommend this drink to anyone, and I truly understand the saying “You get what you paid for.”

Dutch Bros: 3.5/5

With its unique cookie butter flavoring and drizzle, I ordered a small Cookie Butter Iced Latte from Dutch Bros based on its presentibility and tasty looks. When I got my drink, the cookie butter drizzle was at the very bottom so I had to stir it into the drink. The drizzle was rich, thick and luscious with almost a peanut butter-type consistency. It came in chunks of sauce through my straw, giving my drink a delicate taste. However, the drizzle ran out fairly quickly and I did not like the coffee in the drink by itself, but with the drizzle stirred in, there was more flavoring and something to look forward to in every sip. At the hefty price of $5.90, I would not get this as a frequent seasonal drink, but it is a good addition to the fall-themed menu!

Scooters: 4/5

To switch it up, I decided to get a frappuccino-type drink as the last drink to try and the Scooters Autumn Caramel Crunch Blender was on my list. This drink had a combination of espresso, creamy caramel, hazelnut and vanilla flavors that were not too sweet but not too bitter, satisfying me with a happy medium of taste. The consistency of the drink was more on the icier side but still left me craving more with every sip. Additionally, I ordered a small with an affordable price of $3.30, but the size of the drink was significantly larger than I expected, making the drink worth the price. It was nice to try something different because I don’t get Scooters often and will definitely be back to try other drinks seasonal or not!
