One of the best places to find summer desserts is I Am Frozen, located at 14357 Metcalf Ave, where they serve a variety of different summertime desserts including Honey Toast with ice cream, Boba and Shaved Ice.

The “I Am Worth It” dish includes honey toast with chocolate ice cream and banana and was fairly expensive at $17.95 but was very delicious and definitely enough food for two people to share. There was a good difference in texture with both the french toast and the ice cream, as well as a variety of flavors from the sweet honey to the cold, rich chocolate.

Listed among People’s Top 10 ice cream shops in the United States, I Am Frozen is a great place to go for a summer treat.

Tad’s Shaved Ice:

Another interesting place to visit this summer for a sweet treat is Tad’s Shaved Ice at 8940 W 135th St. This shaved ice place is open every day during the summer season.

Tad’s offers a vast expanse of flavors and summer themed flavor combinations for customers to choose from. One such combination is “Summer Breeze” which consists of peach, watermelon and strawberry syrup. Another flavor combination on the menu was called “Turtle Power,” an  infusion of blue raspberry and lime. They also offered simple flavors such as cotton candy and kiwi. For an added few cents, you can add extra flavor to your snow cone as well. Buying more than one snow cone can become a bit pricey if you plan on going with family or friends. Make sure to keep in mind that Tad’s does not offer indoor seating, however the cold shaved ice is quick to alleviate the heat of the day.

Tad’s Shaved Ice is a lovely place to visit on a hot summer day for a cold and delicious sweet treat.

Andy’s Frozen Custard:

Andy’s Frozen Custard at 5821 West 135th Street is a drive through frozen custard place that offers shakes, sundaes and fresh frozen custard in a waffle cone or cup.

With the option of building your own frozen custard treat or selecting from one of the many varying sweet treats available on the menu, Andy’s offers customers a convenient place to order something sweet and filling to brighten their day. The “Stolen Brownie Sundae” is one of these sweet treats, made of vanilla custard, freshly made brownie, hot fudge, pecans and a couple cherries on top, which cost about seven dollars for the regular size. This particular item was definitely filling, and the warm brownie went very well with the cold ice cream while the pecans served as a way to counteract the sweetness of both.

This frozen custard spot is definitely one to enjoy after a long day, or if you are looking for a convenient and fast spot to get something sweet.

Blue Chip Cookies and Ice Cream:

Another popular place to find ice cream and summer desserts is Blue Chip Cookies and Ice Cream at 5045 W 117th St, Leawood at Town Center Plaza. This small shop has many delicious dessert options, including the “Ice Cream and Cookie Flight,” where for $14.99 you can get your four favorite cookies and ice cream flavors. You can include many of their amazing flavors in this dish, such as Butterscotch and Chocolate Chip for the cookies, and Praline Pecan, Rainbow Sherbert, and many others for the ice cream. This dish is definitely one to be shared with other people and not eaten alone, so this place is a great spot to go with friends and family this summer.

Nautical Bowls:

Nautical Bowls is a shop that recently opened up in Overland Park at 11648 W 135th St, serving superfood bowls of açaí and more, with the option of building your own bowls, alongside superfood smoothies.

One of the bowls they offered on the menu was the “Paddle Bowl,” a mix of mango and coconut topped with granola, coconut flakes, strawberries and honey. The 16oz “Cruiser” bowl is a manageable size for one person but expensive at nearly $15. The bowl itself was incredibly refreshing and the flavors of mango and coconut melded together well with the granola, honey and strawberries. The shop had a spacious feeling and enjoyable music playing, and there was an interesting jar with slips of paper called the “Connections Jar” full of questions to ask the people you were sitting with.

Overall, Nautical Bowls offers a selection of healthy and refreshing foods to enjoy with friends and family.
