The boys varsity soccer team defeated Shawnee Mission East in the state quarter-final game tonight at the DAC, 1-0. With this win, they will advance to state semi-finals this Friday in Junction City.

The game was uneventful in the first half as both teams tried and failed to score a goal. The half concluded with a score of 0-0. It was not until Jake DeJulio scored the first and only point of the game 14 minutes into the second half that the Huskies were able to claim a 1-0 victory.

Head coach Rick Pribyl was satisfied with the team’s performance, and said that the team deserves to move on to semi-finals.

“I am extremely excited for them,” Pribyl said. “They deserve every minute of this; they worked hard to get here.”

DeJulio agreed with Pribyl, and said he is looking forward to playing in the state championship semi-finals.

“We put so much hard work in this year, and this is really indicative of how much heart we have,” DeJulio said. “I really think this is the year that we’re gonna win it all.”
