With the departure of science teacher and Student Government sponsors Sarah Derks and the leave of Taylor Heiman from the STUGO organization, math teachers Nicholas Titus and Emma Williams take on the role of co-sponsors for STUGO. Both Titus and Williams have experience being the sophomore and junior class sponsors, respectively, and they hope to bring that experience to expand STUGO’s role at BVNW.
“I think that it’s a good time to both continue to do the things that STUGO does well, but also a good opportunity to change some things,” Titus said.
He said this would include doing more than just dances, now including more games during lunch or more school involvement.
“The responsibility for spirit days and dances still falls on STUGO. We are going to make sure those are the best events they can be,” Titus said.
On top of being more involved in students’ high school activities, Williams and Titus said they still would like to focus on having lots of preparations for school dances, making sure they are the best they can be.
Executive president for STUGO senior Naasif Ahmed said he would like to keep the same group dynamic as the previous years.
“I think we had a really right knit STUGO, so I really hope that we continue that,” Ahmed said.
Vice president of STUGO senior Caroline Lee said she hopes the connections between STUGo and the new sponsors stays the same.
“I’d hope [the] new sponsors would still value student input,” Lee said.
Titus hopes the executive board continues to be a good spokesperson for STUGO for the students and parents.
